Northern Pike Fishing Northern Pike Fishing is best when you go where the biggest trophy Northern Pikes have been caught in the past, Saskatchewan, Canada. Wathaman Outpost is a remote camp operated by Davin Lake Lodge. Although you will have the opportunity to fish in either lake, the largest Walleye have come from Wathaman Lake. The lake is twice the size of Davin Lake; however, it is not as deep. It offers streams and river fishing as well as the main lake. The lakes are open from June the 1st until September the 30th. During the early season people tend to catch the more aggressive fish, which are smaller than average in the size of the fish later in the season. The best time to go to the Camp is around July thru the rest of the summer. August and September are the two months when the Northern Pike Fishing is the best; with the largest Northern Pike being caught in these two months. When you first arrive you will check in at the Davin Lake Lodge, where there is a modern tackle and gift shop. Here you can purchase the license that you need for your experience in Northern Pike Fishing. The area practices the catch and release program, so be sure to take along your camera. Wathaman Outpost can be reached by pontoon boat, which takes about an hour to get there from the Davin Lake Lodge. It is a Light Housekeeping type of camp, so you will need to bring your own food and do your own cooking for breakfast and dinner. The cooking utensils are already provided for you; however, a shore lunch is provided every day. There is only one duplex cabin at the Outpost that will accommodate six people on each side. The bedroom is equipped with six bunk beds. Each side of the cabin is provided with propane heat, which includes hot and cold running water. The kitchen uses a propane stove and refrigerator, and is equipped with a table and chairs. The kitchen area is also part of the front room where you will find chairs and a sofa bed. The toilets and hot showers are located down a wooden walkway in the rear of the cabins. After you return to the camp around 6:00 p.m. you will dock your boat at the shore at the front of the cabins. You can then use the propane grill and the picnic table which are provided by the Outpost, and located on the deck area. Soon after your arrival back at the camp, your guide will begin to fillet your catch that you are going to keep and take home. The weather around the lakes is usually around 80 degrees (26 c); however, there are some rainy days. Some of the best Northern Pike Fishing is during over cast days. The camps rotate on a five day rotation which begins the second day after the arrival of the guests and ends on the morning of the departure day. The Outpost does have an American plan which includes a full four days of fishing, your boat and the motor with a full tank of fuel, and round trip transportation back to Davin Lake Lodge. The American plan does require a deposit of $200.00 per person. If
there are children under 12 years old they will receive a 50% discount.
